Rice-pudding is the Han
nationality traditional festival food, people have this special food on the
Dragon Boat Festival. It made from a reed leaves wrapped steamed glutinous
rice. Rice- pudding is the most profound traditional culture food in the
history of Chinese.
It has the massive historical sense, and it was deeply loved by people. Every year on fifth lunar month, every Chinese people will soak glutinous rice, wash reed leaves, and make rice-pudding. This custom also spread to Korea, Japan and Southeast Asian countries.
It came from a sad story. Qu
yuan, is a minister of the emperor in Chunqiu Period dynasty. He proposed to pick
talented people work for the emperor and strong the army, also united other
groups to fight with Qin emperor. He was objected by other ministers strongly
and lost his position. He was been banished and left the capital city. In
278DC,Qin defeated ChunQiu Period dynasty, and killed the emperor. Qu Yuan saw his
country was been occupied. He felt like was been killed by a knife. He jumped
into the river and chose to die with his country.
People
were so sad because of his death. They went to the river to mourn him. A
fisherman took out his rice cake, eggs and other food and throws them into the
river. He said it could feed the fish, lobsters and crabs, so that they won’t
hurt QuYuan’s body. When people see this they all bring rice and throw it into
the river, then it developed into rice-pudding.
This kind of food
is full of people’s love, respect and memory. Chinese people love this food is
just like they love the good minister.
